Great Gatsby Projects

For this assignment, you (and a partner if you choose) will decide on ONE project to present to the class about the novel and the 1920’s. The projects are due October 22nd and some may volunteer to be “in”formally presented to the class.

Make sure that you fulfill ALL aspects of the assignment to receive all points. If you have questions, please ask!

Novel: Party Planning
As Jay Gatsby, design an invitation to one of your parties. Also include a typed detailed “To Do” list of menu items, guests, color scheme, flowers, entertainment options, etc.
Novel: Editorial Cartoon
Create an editorial cartoon (in ink or color) that expresses your opinion about an issue in the book. Also include a typed paragraph explaining the events in the book that surround your issue.
Novel: Song Writing
Write a rap or change the words to a current song to tell us the story of The Great Gatsby.
1920’s: Jazz
Write a one page typed review of a song that was popular in the 1920’s. Also mix and burn a CD of popular 1920’s music OR do a demonstration of a popular dance from the 1920’s such as “The Charleston.” (must be presented)
1920’s: Automobiles
Write a Motortrendish typed review of a popular car from the 1920’s. Also design a full size magazine ad for the car.
1920’s: Prohibition
Write a one page typed essay explaining how prohibition contributed to organized crime (mafia). Also create a poster or a PowerPoint outlining the causes and effects of prohibition.
1920’s: Fashion
Write a one page typed essay explaining how fashion reflected the changing society of the 1920’s. Also create a PowerPoint about the fashion trends of the 1920s OR model a replica of a 1920’s fashion.

Character Analysis Collage
Choose a significant passage from the novel that relates to one of the key characters. Make a collage that depicts that quote as it relates to the novel. Be sure to put the actual quote on the collage. ALSO, write a few paragraphs that explain why you made your collage the way you did. How does the quote adequately describe your character? Describe and discuss the symbols (pictures) you chose.
Can This Marriage Be Saved?
Write a magazine article similar to those that appear in the Ladies Home Journal about Tom and Daisy's marriage or George and Myrtle's marriage. Use details from the novel to support your position of what the characters need to do in order to save their marriage. Assume that Myrtle doesn't die, of course. Be sure to address the problems in their marriage as well as offer solutions.
"Nice to see you again."
Write a dialogue between Daisy and Gatsby for the time when they first meet again after five years. Remember that at first they are very awkward, but after Nick has left them alone for about thirty minutes, they seem filled with joy. This dialogue should be at least two pages and should reflect their characters.
